5 SUMMER ESSENTIALS EVERY MAN NEEDS

It’s summertime in the northern hemisphere of the world and for most women, that means endless options of flower dresses and summer accessories. For men however, it can be a bit more challenging.

For one, the sheer number of clothing options men have does not compare to what women enjoy at the mall or online shopping. Take it from us, we’ve shopped for men and women and can confirm that men have WAY less options to pick from when shopping.

Secondly, the struggle to stay cool yet look stylish is another uphill battle for men, and women, but especially for men because this blog is for them <3 – sorry guys, it’s not easy out there, but we’re here to help.

From finding stylish options for summer events and the office, to staying cool under the summer sun – we give you Knit Me Up’s 5 summer essentials that will change your life (just kidding, but not at all).

Layering

Layering adds depth to any outfit.

Layering is like accessorizing your outfit, it adds depth and elevates any outfit. Imagine you’re wearing a simple t-shirt & shorts to a casual event. Now add a button up shirt, vest or overshirt to the outfit and voila, you have a completely new look.

If you want a casual look, you can go for a boxy or loose fit layering piece. If you prefer a dressier look, try a slim fit or fitted overshirt / shirt

Start here: shirt 1 or shirt 2, t-shirt, vest, lightweight vests, structured vest, cardigans, polo shirt, button down short sleeve, button down shirt, crew neck t-shirt, scoop neck t-shirt, tank top, more tanks.

OUTerWEAR

Overshirts & Shirt Jackets

Outerwear are key ingredients.

If putting an outfit together was like cooking, and “layering” represents all your ingredients, then outerwear, “ overshirts / shirt jackets / jean jackets”, are the ingredients you can’t live without (e.g. sugar, flour, eggs) – you can make anything from bread to pancakes with those three ingredients, the same applies to outwear.

Try buying 1-2 types of outerwear (e.g. jean jacket or shirt jacket) and notice the depth it adds to your look – we promise people will start complimenting you.

Try these: shacket, shirt jacket, relaxed jean jacket, suede jacket. another shirt jacket.

LINEN

Unmatched coolness and breathable fabric.

Linen gives you an unmatched coolness thanks to the weave and fiber properties and it’s less likely to cling to your skin because of the breathable fabric. Ps, don’t worry about the wrinkles, it’s part of the charm of wearing linen clothing – makes them perfect for the office or casual settings.

Ps ps, another summer fabric alternative to linen is cotton. It is extremely breathable and perfect for the hottest summer days

Linen for days: linen polo, printed linen shirt, linen shorts, more linen shorts, collarless linen shirt, linen suit pants, linen blend pants.

SHORTS

The unsung hero with many faces.

There are more styles of shorts than you might imagine. You probably think the shorts in your (or your man’s) closet are the only styles out there but wait, there’s more. There are (drum roll please): linen or linen-cotton shorts, chino shorts, cargo shorts, roll up shorts, pleated shorts, denim shorts and yes these are all real - google, TikTok or instagram it.

Shorts for all: chino shorts, linen shorts, relaxed shorts, denim shorts, roll up shorts, pleated shorts,

ACCESSORIES

The icing to your outfit.

Accessories matter because the small things matter. Some men mistake accessories for bling and excess but remember accessorizing is like icing - you can lay it on heavy or very light (have we overdone the cooking references ?).

Light accessories: cologne (yes, your scent is an accessory), one necklace, one bracelet, light layering of clothes, sunglasses, belt

Heavy accessories: cologne (intentional spraying), layered necklaces, bracelets, rings, ball cap, hats (fedora, flat hat, bucket), silk scarf, beanie (for cooler summer days), heavy layering (light blazer + cardigan + shirt)

Accessorize yourself: bracelets, rings, more rings, sunglasses, hat, felt cap, flat cap, necklace, more necklaces.

Whatever you wear, start with confidence, that’s the bonus essential you can’t afford to miss. If you need a confidence boost, you know who to call!
