Styling Your Boyfriend Jeans

It can be hard styling boyfriend jeans. Sometimes they puff up around the crotch area, or hang loose around your waist, but when you go down a size it fits tight on your thighs - the problems seem endless. I got quite lucky with these boyfriend jeans, they're my only pair too. When I feel I didn't style it right, I still get compliments from others about how much they love the jeans. So how do I do it?
Here are my secrets to styling boyfriend jeans
1. DECIDE on the fit you want
These jeans sit quite loose on me, especially around my waist. It falls below my belly in the front, and the back actually sits on top of my hip. I almost always wear a belt with it, unless my top is covering the front and even then I still wear a belt. Although I forgot a belt during this shoot, you can clearly see where the pants fall without anything holding them up.
when shopping for boyfriend jeans, I suggest going up one size up especially if you have thick thighs like ME.
A bigger size gives you that lazy boyfriend look and you can always add a belt to keep things stable on your hips.
Random Story & Tip: If you want to spice up any pair of jeans you have, add a patch of material that is a different wash. The bottom right patch on these jeans was sewn on by me ;)
2. plan your outfit around the jeans
When I decide to wear my boyfriend jeans, I put them in focus. So I style my outfit around the boyfriend jeans. Because the fit of a boyfriend jean is so unique, you have to pair it with something that makes sense for the kind of jeans that it is. E.g I won't pair these jeans with a crop top or a blouse that ends mid waist. When I do that, my tummy looks bigger than it is because the jeans falls are low in the front which leaves my midsection highlighted/in focus. For my styling, I choose two styles to share with you today.
First style is a lazy but chic look; I chose a top that mimics the lazy look of the jeans yet has a soft feel. The reason I paired this top with the jeans is because it falls loosely in the front which masks any puffing up of the crotch area. Also, the asymmetrical cut covers a lot of my back area so I don't have to worry about unwanted back side cleavage haha.
My second look is a mix of street style with a heavy touch of class. I wanted to dress up the jeans and although that's hard to do that with the huge rip by the knee, it seems like that "street style with class" is totally in. Ask Kanye West if you don't believe me.

You're probably thinking; why the mix of two styles ? - fancy and casual. Sometimes I think of clothes in the same way I experience food. When you mix sweet with savoury, it creates a symphony of flavours that you can't explain but somehow love. It's similar to fashion, especially as it evolves and recycles itself. Mixing a fancy off-shoulder top with a casual ripped-boyfriend-jean may not seem like the "appropriate" thing to do, but like food, it creates a look you can't help but savour. Now, not everyone likes sweet and savoury but the idea is to mix different styles and see what "flavours" you can create with your clothes.
